Using data to analyze the problem of Reverse Takeover in HKEX

A crossover between EPIN1020 Design Thinking and Practice (Assignment #1 and #4) and
LAWS4390 Public Listed Companies and the Law (Final Research Paper)

Methodology

Natvigating the data cycle:
1. Use Parsehub to scrap all the Announcements and Notices that are relevant to Reverse Takeover on HKEX Advance Search, from the period 5/11/2017 to 5/11/2018 (a total of 82 records)
2. Use OpenRefine briefly to clean and understand the data
3. Use Airtable to formulate data
4. Use Pingendo to build a website to engage audience

Findings on Airtable

Out of the 15 Companies that had made Announcements and Notices regarding Reverse Takeover,
only 4 are still trading
7 have been suspended

(as for remaining 4, 1 company has its acquisition terminated,
and the other 3 were about GEM takeovers)

Thoughts

This research

Limitations

  1. This data set is based upon the assumption that these listed companies have made announcements and notices accordingly. Some companies who have undergone reverse takeover might not have complied with the HKEX Listing Rules on these Notifiable Transactions.
  2. The biggest problem is that I am obly able to scrape data for at most one year using the HKEX Advanced Search function
  3. Two
  4. Three
